President swops roles for two ministers
President Yahya Jammeh has re-appointed Dr Mamadou Tangara as Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad. Dr Tangara held the post until February this year when he was reassigned to the post of Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.
Mambury Njie has swopped roles with Dr Tangara; he was Foreign Affairs minister and now takes on the Higher Education role.
In other news, the president appears to be going ahead with his pledge to execute all 47 people on Gambia’s death row. A number of regional and international newspapers are reporting that nine death row prisoners were executed on Thursday with the remaining prisoners all moved to one place. The move by the president has caused outrage in the international community with many of the prisoners being political or where their trials were said to be questionable.
