Published

President Nursultan Nazarbayev has dismissed his Prime Minister and Cabinet.

No official reason has been given for the decision but Prime Minister Karim Masimov is understood to have given in his resignation prior to the dismissal. The president will now nominate a new prime minister. The name will be submitted to parliament and once parliament appoints the new prime minister he will have ten days in which to appoint a new Cabinet.

The government will continue in post until a new Cabinet is appointed. The Kazinform agency reports that the president is currently in discussion with the party leaders in the Kazakh Majilis.
