Mongolia

Prime Minister nominated

Published

The new coalition in the Mongolian Parliament has nominated Norovyn Altankhuyag, the leader of the Democratic Party as the new Prime Minister.

The nomination has been sent to President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj and he has five days within which to respond.

The nomination of the Democratic Party leader comes after his party emerged as the largest party in the 28th June general election with 31 of 76 seats in the Mongolian State Great Khural. The party is still negotiating a programme for government with its two coalition partners, the Justice Coalition and Civil Will-Green Party and this move is a hopeful sign that agreement is near and that a new Cabinet will be formed soon.
