Sall appoints new PM

President Macky Sall, the day after his inauguration as Senegal’s new president, has appointed a banker with no party affiliation as his new prime minister.

Abdoul Mbaye (59) will be the new prime minister. He has a background in banking, having worked in the Central Bank of West African States as well as being CEO of Habitat Bank of Senegal, Company Bank of West Africa and heading up the Attijari Bank of Senegal.

Macky Sall has vowed to clean up public finances and to allow state bodies who audit government to do their job unfettered.

Mbaye has already announced that he will be appointing a slimmed down Cabinet of no more than 25 ministers. Meanwhile President Sall has announced that the legislative elections scheduled for 17th June will be put back to 1st July.
