Santiago Peña appointed Minister of Finance

Paraguay’s Finance Minister Germán Rojas is reported to have resigned his portfolio on 24th December. The office of President Horacio Cartes has confirmed that Santiago Peña will be the new Minister of Finance.

Santiago Peña (36) has a degree in Economics from the Catholic University of Asuncion (2001) and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Columbia University in New York (2003). He has specialised in Promotion Policies for SMEs, Programming and Financial Policy, Monetary and Financial Statistics, among others and worked as an analyst at the Industrial Development Fund (1999). He also worked at the Central Bank (2000 – 2009) and IMF 2009 – 2012 where he was Economist responsible for countries in Africa. In 2012 he was appointed Titular Member of the Board of the Central Bank.
