Sedki Sobhi is new Minister of Defence

Following the announcement by Minister of Defence and Military Production Field Marshal Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi that he would be standing in the forthcoming presidential election, he has also announced his resignation as a minister.

General Sedki Sobhi has been sworn in as the new Minister of Defence and Military Production.

Sobhi (59) graduated from the Egypt’s Military Academy in 1976 and from 2004 – 2005 he took a master’s degree at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He served in a number of roles in the Third Field Army until becoming its commander in 2009. In August 2012 he was Lieutenant General and appointed Chief of Staff of the army by former President Mohamed Mursi.
