Published

President Dmitry Medvedev has appointed Anton Siluanov as the new Finance Minister following the stormy departure of Alexei Kudrin who had held the post since 2000.

Siluanov (48) is an economist and career civil servant who has worked in the Finance Ministry since 1985. He was Deputy Finance Minister from 2005, responsible for regional budget policy.

Siluanov is described as a capable figure but with little political experience, something he will need to gather in his new, more public, role.
