Trade minister resigns to stand for presidency

Minister of Trade Gita Irawan Wirjawan has resigned his portfolio to allow him to put his name forward as a candidate in the presidential election on 9th July.

The minister is one of six candidates who have put their name forward for the Democratic Party (PD) nomination which will be decided at a special convention.

Incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is barred from seeking a third term in office under the constitution.
